Baby Saved Due to Conversation!

This story from Friday, March 13, outside Whole Woman’s (WW), consists of two reports:

Part 1: By Mary Kay L, volunteer sidewalk counselor

I was standing along the frontage road leading into WW with prayer supporter John T. when two women stopped to receive my literature.  Based on their accent, they appeared to be from Africa.

After handing the passenger the literature, I asked if she was enroute to WW.  She replied, “Yes.”  I asked if she was planning to get an abortion and she painfully replied yes.  I  told her, “Please don’t do this today, PLEASE.  We have resources available to help you and your baby.  Please reconsider.”

This woman looked very sad.  It was so apparent she was really struggling with this decision.  I encouraged her to read the literature (that she had placed on the dashboard).  I asked her to please come talk to us, as we have resources and are here to help.  The woman driving the car began to drive away and I said, “God bless you” to both of them.  John and I prayed that this woman would change her mind.

Part 2: By Debra Braun, Education Director

When the women walked into WW, I called out from the edge of the parking lot that we could help them, to look at the ultrasound, etc.  Then John told me what happened at the car, and he said he thought this was a hopeful situation.

Sure enough, about an hour later, the two women came out, and I again called out to them as they walked to their car.  The driver seemed to be in a bit of a hurry to leave, but I was able to encourage the pregnant woman to come over to me.  She said she would call the number on the brochure “that you gave me.”  I explained that it was a different woman who gave her the literature,  and then I gave her my business card with my direct phone number.

She acknowledged that she had changed her mind, and when I asked why, she said, “because of the conversation (at the car on the way in).”  I’ve been praying for her and her baby.  She hasn’t called me yet, but that is not unusual.  Sometimes once the decision for life is made, they find support among their own friends and family, and then we might receive a photo when the baby is born!
