Tuesday, May 27, Whole Woman’s, Bloomington ~ #1
By Gary Gillet, Sidewalk Ministry Manager
I arrived at 7:45 and volunteer Mary E. came soon after. Early in our shift, a young woman came in for an abortion, but did not stop to talk with us nor accept our literature. She parked on the south side of the parking lot near the public sidewalk, so I went over to where she was parked. One of the pro-abortion escorts came over when she saw me heading over there.
When the young lady got out of the car I could see that she was crying and distressed. I told her that I had information regarding free help available, but the escort quickly walked her to the door. I kept calling out to her. I told her to see her ultrasound, to see her beautiful baby and not to abort her baby, to save her baby.
Although she did not talk with us or take our literature, because she was crying I knew there was a chance that she (or God) would change her mind. I went back to Mary and we prayed for this woman. During our shift, prayer supporter Jane W. arrived. Mary told her about the distraught mother who had gone in. Also during my shift, God kept reminding me about this mother and I prayed for her each time.
Before my shift had ended, another sidewalk counselor, Anna H., arrived. After my shift ended, I talked to Anna for a few minutes. Upon leaving, I told Anna, “Before I go, let me say a prayer.” While I was praying for the young mother and others who had gone into Whole Woman’s, this young mother came out.
I was so glad to see her because I knew the abortionist had not yet arrived. I called to her again to offer help. She got into her car and drove over to talk to us.
The first thing she said was, “I am keeping my baby!” We encouraged her and gave her our literature. I gave her my PLAM card and told her to contact us if she needed anything. Before she left, I asked her if our presence there helped her decide to keep her baby and she replied, “Yes, it did.”
All glory to God for convicting this mother to keep her baby and for answering our prayers. Thank you, Heavenly Father, for this baby saved, in Jesus’ precious name.
